Behold! This is my take on creating a Victorian style house.
The house was inspired by Victorian architecture and highly inspired from old styled houses from Queen-Anne, Folk and the Gothic Revival periods. After concluding my research, my main idea leaned towards the Queen Anne style houses from 1880/1910 and the foundations of the project had grown from there. I researched into American homes that were centered around the Victorian style and gathered ideas for layout, set dressing, props, lighting and architecture.
Initially the goal of this project was to study and develop a a trimsheet that could be affectively used on the house using one Master material setup. This would allow the use of swapping out colour tints, adjust the roughness, normal values, contrast with minimal effort. I felt that the house alone didn't suffice, so I was commited to making a full fledged environment to suit the needs of the house and setting.
Overall I am pleased with the final outcome of the project as I have discovered variety of new workflows, learned to use new software and flexibly managed my time effectively. Building a modular kit had provided flexibility, speed, and cost-effectiveness by allowing for assembly of standardised components, as well as being able to manipulate a specic asset and swap it out for another without any issues.
The Trim sheet efficiently added detail to multiple assets with a single texture, enhancing the visual quality and saving on texture memory. I look forward to challenging myself further in future projects.
- The foliage cards were done in Maya and mesh painted in the environment.
- Majority of the scene from props, building and other assets were textured in Substance Painter.
- Created a modular kit for the house parts that can feesibly be changed and swapped out if necessary.
- Created a day and night time scene that showcased the environment in different lighting scenarios
- Created a Trimsheet with repeating and unique texture elements that were strategically UV mapped onto the house to simulate detailed surfaces and geometries with minimal texture memory usage in engine. This made it easier to tweak parts of the house with ease.
- Used Adobe lightroom, Photoshop and Premier pro for final the videos, compositions and adjustments
